How to Set And Achieve Your Biggest SMART Goals — EVERY SINGLE TIME

When it comes to setting goals, many of us are setting them the wrong way… Not only can this lead to frustration when it comes to understanding the paths you’re choosing to take, but it leads to overall frustration when it comes to achieving the things you want to achieve in life.

Goal setting — good goal setting — is an important skill that will propel those who master it towards the things they wish to do and the accomplishments they wish to boast.

How to Set And Achieve Your Biggest SMART Goals — EVERY SINGLE TIME

Let’s Talk About SMART Goals

The first thing you need to know about setting goals is that there is a methodology that allows you to set good (nay, great) goals each and every time. This methodology is often referred to as setting SMART goals and the acronym speaks for itself.

What are SMART Goals?

  • Specific (simple, sensible, significant).

  • Measurable (meaningful, motivating).

  • Achievable (agreed, attainable).

  • Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).

  • Time-bound (time-based, time-limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

The Importance Of Goal Dates

Let’s talk about your timeline. Getting the SMART part right about your goals is the first step to setting and achieving your biggest goals, but you’re going to need to get consistent about how often and when, in particular, you set your goals. I love to set myself a monthly date to set my goals. I also choose a monthly date to audit the goals set the month before and ask myself a few questions about whether or not I achieved these goals, why, and why not.

In your evaluation of your goals, it’s important to remember that not achieving a goal does not equal failure — I love to ask myself did I push self/do my best, if not, I try again the next month! Listen below for a more in-depth review and motivation

Important Goal Related Questions

Lastly, let’s end off with some questions to ask yourself when setting your monthly goals?

  • What are some areas that I want to focus on in the next month?

  • Where do I feel stagnant in my life — how can I create a goal to push myself here?

  • What are some results I would like to see at the end of the month / how can I work backward to create goals around this?
